January 2022 – Unipart Logistics and Unipart Rail have both won Swords of Honour from the British Safety Council, with Unipart Logistics winning the chief adjudicator’s award as the highest-scoring organisation of the year.
Winning a Sword of Honour is seen as the pinnacle of world-class health and safety. Unipart Group has won more than 60 ‘Swords’ from the British Safety Council since 2011, more than any other company in its sectors.
For Unipart Logistics it was the 11th consecutive year to win a Sword of Honour, with safety systems so embedded in operations through The Unipart Way that last year the division recorded its lowest ever Lost Time Incident Rate, a calculation of the number of incidents resulting in time away from work.
Unipart Rail was given a British Safety Council Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit rating for the fifth consecutive year in the summer. The division demonstrated to an independent panel of experts it achieved excellence in its health and safety management throughout the business to win the Sword the Honour.
Andy Pyne, Unipart Logistics Divisional Operations Director, said: “We have a long track record of world-class health and safety, and winning Swords of Honour, so while we’re absolutely thrilled to be the highest-scoring organisation of the year it is also the standard we have come to expect from ourselves. The achievement is in no small part due to our colleagues who every day are using The Unipart Way and digital technology to make our processes safer, more efficient, and more sustainable. Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard in support of this fantastic achievement.”
Neil McNicholas, Unipart Rail Managing Director, said: “The rail industry has extremely high standards for the safety of rail workers, the service users, and the general public. At Unipart Rail, we recognise this special obligation to have the highest safety standards, and the Swords of Honour are very important to us not just in recognising my team’s work in keeping our standards at the highest level, but also continually striving to improve. I am immensely proud of everyone at Unipart Rail who meet and exceed these standards every day.”
