Earth Day 2023 inspires The Big Unipart Clean Up

Unipart colleagues took part in The Big Unipart Clean Up in celebration of Earth Day, with the aim of spreading sustainability awareness and reducing the amount of plastic in the environment.

Each piece of litter collected during the event was a positive step in the right direction, considering the 6.3 billion metric tons of plastic waste generated to date, of which only 9% has been recycled.

Romana Stanova, Environmental Manager, said: “Events like these are all part of Unipart’s Race to Zero agenda to raise awareness and fulfil our commitments to reduce our scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% by 2030.

“A litter-picking event is more than simply getting people to pick up litter. We want to encourage long-term behaviour change, encourage people to think about excess packaging before they buy, and encourage them to reuse it or recycle.”

At Unipart’s Magna Park site the team collected 100kg of litter. Colleagues showed great enthusiasm in ensuring the site and its surrounding environment was a clean and safe space for all.

Manuel Sarauz, Compliance Officer – Magna Park, said: “After the activity, colleagues expressed that they are more conscious that every piece of trash that is taken away to be recycled means there is one less dangerous item for wildlife.

“At Unipart Magna Park we are part of the solution, not the pollution, and we are proud of the overwhelming response.”

The desire to make a positive difference to the environment was also shown at many other Unipart sites, with the Maidstone team collecting 100kg of litter, and the Nuneaton team collecting 180kg of litter.

The site leadership teams were delighted to see employees take responsibility for the environment into their own hands, and put in the effort to make a genuine difference.

This committed team effort from colleagues across all Unipart divisions shows how living The Unipart Way can help make spaces cleaner and greener.
