To mark National Apprenticeship Week 2021 four apprentices at Unipart share their experiences.

Leo – Engineer Apprentice (Level 4), Unipart Manufacturing

‘My apprenticeship has given me a fascinating opportunity to learn about new technologies, including working alongside ‘cobots’ on a live production line.

I’ve been lucky enough to gain experience in Hyperbat, Unipart’s joint venture with Williams Advanced Engineering to develop and produce electric vehicle battery technology.

‘I’m now working on electronics in the McCulloch Rail Panel Lifter production facility, a partnership between Unipart Manufacturing and Unipart Rail that brings cutting-edge rail technology to Coventry.’

Vineta – Business Improvement Techniques Apprenticeship (Level 2), Unipart Logistics

‘I think the biggest difference between this Unipart training and most other training I’ve experienced is the number of times you are able to take what you learn in a classroom and apply it directly to a live situation in a work environment.

‘If you look at principle nine of The Unipart Way ‘we go and see to deeply understand’, being able to practice in operational areas and conduct deep dives into processes has really allowed me to put the principle into action, and immediately see and measure the benefits.

‘In addition to the operational benefits, personally this apprenticeship has given me confidence to push myself further and really step out of my comfort zone.’

Giles – Digital Analyst Apprenticeship (Level 4), Unipart Logistics

‘The programme has set me up on a really strong trajectory. It’s giving me skills I can apply to my role with quantifiable benefits, whilst at the same time helps me drive Unipart’s focus on the importance of digital capability.

‘This is not only for myself but also for my team, through the application of industry-leading tools and techniques which ultimately are to the benefit of our customers.’

Ben – Maintenance Apprentice (Level 4), Unipart Manufacturing

‘My apprenticeship has given me the skills and knowledge to work on complex manufacturing projects. My current project has required additional self training on electronics and computer programming which is supported by Unipart’s digital community.

‘The most important thing I’ve learned is the importance of working safely when completing a task. This includes correct shutdown procedures and how to use testing equipment, so I have the confidence to work on machinery and processes while keeping my colleagues and I safe.’
