March 2024 – To celebrate International Women’s Day, we are sharing stories of women who are building successful careers with Unipart. Our third career story for International Women’s Day focuses on Jayne Nixon, from Unipart Rail, who shared how Unipart has supported her development over the last 33 years.
Jayne started her career at just 18, her first role was in Stock Audit and she soon moved to a finance role dealing with cash pay. Transitioning to Warehouse Support Manager, she gained her skills in The Unipart Way, setting the stage for her next challenge – a move to the Quality Department.
Despite lacking qualifications in this area, Jayne’s skills and vast knowledge across various departments at Unipart Rail provided Jayne with an opportunity to join the Quality Department with further development.
Jayne completed an apprenticeship to add to her strong skill set of process mapping and SOP management. Jayne joined the Quality team whilst completing her Level 4 Quality Practitioner apprenticeship, which she passed with a Distinction.
Jayne has been with Unipart for 33 years now and is enjoying her role more than ever. It plays to all her strengths in terms of facilitating, mentoring, coaching and putting into practice her Lean & Six Sigma qualification.
We asked Jayne to share a specific standout memory at Unipart, she said, “I’ve had over 30 years of memories, but I would say my standout ones are where I have been involved in ‘talent’ spotting and helping my colleagues within Unipart to progress into other areas of the business”
“This is because one of the key highlights of my time at Unipart has been the variety of people I have worked with – you spend many hours with them. If they had not been the people they are, in the engaging culture we work in, then I would not still be here.”
